Adding on to an existing home is one of the trickier things we do. It's not just about building new square footage - it's about making that new space feel like it was always part of the original structure. That's exactly what this Apex, NC project was all about.
Here's what we were working with: a well-established home with white siding, a dark roof, and a clean traditional look. The goal was to attach a fully functional apartment addition that matched the existing home so closely you'd never know it wasn't original. Roofline pitch, siding profile, window placement, exterior trim details - every decision was made with that in mind.
We handled this from the ground up. Framing, roofing, exterior carpentry, siding - all the way through to the finished interior. The inside came together with fresh flooring, clean white walls, and a teal-accented bathroom that gives the space its own personality while still feeling cohesive. That balance between matching the main home on the outside and creating something fresh on the inside is where the real craft comes in.
A lot of homeowners in this situation worry about one of two things - either the addition looks tacked on and awkward, or they lose so much yard and character that it doesn't feel like their home anymore. Getting the roofline and exterior details right from the start is what prevents both. When the carpentry and exterior renovation work is done well, the seam between old and new basically disappears.
This is the kind of work we're most proud of. Not just because it looks good, but because it solves a real problem - adding livable space without compromising what already exists.
